Quirks might seem weird when you are young…- Ed Sheeran

Quirks might seem weird when you are young…- Ed Sheeran

“Quirks might seem weird when you are young. But they make you stand out when you are older. And that’s an important thing.” – Ed Sheeran

You are different. So they laugh at you. You are a spectacle. You are too fat, too short, too wordy, too quiet, too awkward, too black, too white, too local, too exotic, too foreign, too plain …

Can you really say that your identity and lifestyle choices have not been shaped, in some way, by painful labels and experiences from your past, or even by some experiences that are pounding at your soul right now?

Goodness knows, these are the things that make many of our lives a living hell- being different- and these are the things that then send us down paths (hidden or not) of brokenness in life.

Being different. Being (more like feeling) inadequate, unloved, rejected, unwanted, un-needed, passed over. And of course, there are those who for the most part had it ‘good’; acceptance, being admired, being desired, and this made them proud, judgmental, self-righteous, unloving, uncaring …

Come on.

This is resonating with you right? There is no person on earth whose personality, identity and chosen lifestyle has not been influenced by his/her life experiences; most especially the painful ones.

Some of us find our way to a life of healing and increasing peace, using our stories as a springboard to greater confidence, compassion and ultimately helping others who are still suffering the same pains.

Many of us, however, never find that healing. Many never experience increasing wholeness. Many remain broken by the meanness that comes at you for being different, or even by the adoration that you might get for being different (if you are one of the ‘lucky’ ones) …

… AND MANY SETTLE FOR THIS BEING ‘JUST THE WAY LIFE IS’

Which are you?

I watched a clip online recently about the famous singer, Ed Sheeran, and about how growing up he had a really hard time. He was different, plain and simple, and not in a way that others found ‘cute’. (HAHAHA!)
But in this clip I watched, the story is told of how Ed pushed through, despite the pain, and rejection, despite his being different. He believed that what was placed inside him was too great to be caged by the reality of the broken world he lives in. And eventually, he rose, and is still rising, it appears.

Now, I don’t know if this story about Ed Sheeran is true. If it is, I don’t know the state of his ‘inner self’, his soul; whether he has found healing and increasing peace from the inside out. But this story of how being different went from being the source of rejection in childhood, to being the thing that can drive one to reach for his dream, is priceless.

The B.O.O.M Walk Program by Toyin Oladiran …

The B.O.O.M Walk Program by Toyin Oladiran is all about helping you to begin your journey to healing and inner peace, if you (like most people) have had hard Roots-and-Routes (life experiences) that may have battered you into an identity and lifestyle that keeps you from a real, deep relationship with God, or from knowing and walking in your God-given calling.

Is this you? Then come on. Join us. Click here.

This program is not psycho babble mumbo jumbo. It is a practical, relatable and hard hitting faith-based study … And in it, I basically share my personal experiences, and the tools that God is using in my life, to heal me from formative experiences that rendered me broken, and to help me know and walk in His calling on my life.

The B.O.O.M Walk Program by Toyin Oladiran

We all come from somewhere. We all have our battle scars. We all have those life experiences, past or even ongoing, that have forced us into shadowy corners in our lives, preventing us from living fully, loving fully and most of all, serving God to the uttermost.

Some of us have carried on in this way, and gone on to do life ‘normally’, to become pastors, engineers, fathers, builders, lovers, secretaries, government officials, wives, teachers, sports coaches, gym instructors, you name it. Yet many are living a façade; a classic tale of smokes and mirrors. Many are carrying around, and being defined by those pivotal life experiences. Many have learnt to accept that this is just the way life is – living with and from the baggage.

What’s your scar? Where does it come from? Is it still driving your thoughts and responses to life? Are you tired of your scars keeping you wedged off into the fringes and sidelines of life, constantly angry, bitter, frustrated, rejected, insecure, proud, self-righteous … etc?

That’s what you and I will be tackling with the HOLY SPIRIT in The B.O.O.M WALK PROGRAM.

This Program is for EVERYONE…
…Yes, I said EVERYONE!

Be careful now. Do not think that only people who struggle with what we erroneously call ‘the big sins’ like murder, slavery, adultery etc struggle with the ‘Old Man’ (‘B.O.O.M’ stands for ‘bow out, Old Man’). Yes those are reflections of the ‘Old Man’ at work, but for the vast majority of people, the traits of the ‘Old Man’ are way more subtle, and internal.

I’m talking anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, self-righteousness, pride, fear, insecurity, rebellion against God, inferiority complex, lack of self-control…the list can go on.

The ‘Old Man’ thrives in secrecy… it’s all about the state of the mind, isn’t it?

Come on. Do not be afraid! And do not settle for more of the same!

Click here now to indicate your interest and to begin to prepare your heart and your spaces. The kind of transformation we are talking about here does not come by the click of a finger, neither does it come by lurking in a spectator’s seat. You need to take a bold step, own who you are and where you are at, and come along, for The B.O.O.M Walk Program.

I cannot WAIT to work with you. And if I am so excited about it, imagine how God, the Incredible Lover of your soul feels?

Hugs and Love,

Toyin Oladiran (Christian Transformational Coach and Creator of The B.O.O.M Walk Program)

Work With Toyin
Is there an aspect of your life that has you confounded?

Are you frustrated because you had high hopes for your life, career, marriage, relationships (etc.) but none of this has materialised and you are not sure why?

Have you made choices that have left you feeling deprived of a real and life-altering relationship with God?

Have you decided to follow Jesus, yet that promise of inner freedom from persistent cycles of sin and brokenness continues to elude you?

Have your life experiences cornered you into a lifestyle and identity (hidden or known) that drains you and limits you to being a person that you know is way beneath what God has called you to be?

Do you desire to know God’s purpose for your life and walk in it, but anytime you try to discover God’s heart for you, you meet with dark clouds of fear, insecurity and uncertainty?

Have you given up on God because someone somewhere sometime disappointed you and misrepresented who Jesus is to you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, or any other state that has you living a life that is beneath what God planned for you, please take this as my invitation for you to work with me.

A Tip to maximise your Mid-Week Truth Turn Up …
Your Mid-Week Truth Turn Up is a 'meaty' devotional that can re-centre your heart on Jesus as you go along in your week. The devotional is slightly lengthier than a daily devotional and that is because I post them only once a week and they are meant to be your repeat meditation for the next 7 days till you receive the next Truth Turn Up.

My tip is therefore that as your week goes on, you visit and re-visit your Mid-Week Truth Turn up and meditate on the Bible Meditation passage, my write up as well as the Further Study at the bottom of the devotional. Take the whole week to meditate on it and get it into your spirit. Do not try to compress the whole devotional into one reading.

Enjoy (* wink *)

Coach Toyin

A singer I love, Tamela Mann, sings this lovely song, ‘Take me to the King’. The lyrics are:

Take me to the King
I don’t have much to bring
My heart is torn in pieces
Its my offering
Leave me at throne
Leave me there alone
To gaze upon Your glory
And sing to You this song
Take me to the King
What a song! Take me to the King. Take me into the Presence of the Most High; the Lord, God Almighty. Take me into the secret place where He dwells and from where the One who they call, ‘Mighty to Save’ calls my name, and beckons me to draw nearer.
Take me to the King.
Well, I have a question for you. What if your wish came true? What if ‘they’ did take you to the King? What would you do? What would you say? What would burst out of your soul, through your quivering lips, to the Almighty God?
Would you stand in His presence? Would you crumble to your knees? Would you shield your eyes from the brilliant light streaming from His face? Would you fall face down in worship?
Would you cry, “Holy! Holy! Holy!” in humble awe of His Majesty? Or would you try to hide away from Him like Adam and Eve did when they had sinned and they believed the lie that their sin left them with only one option – hide away from God in shame?
I am learning that there is nothing worth more, nothing could ever come close, nothing could compare, to drawing close to and living from the presence of the King. This is the power seat. Everything about life, love, faith, purpose, eternity, destiny, glory, greatness, worshipping God in spirit and in truth … you name it; everything flows from that place – the presence of the King.
Take me to the King.
A few months ago, I had had a tough week and I had missed the mark a few times when it comes to the meditations of my mind. In plain English, that week, I had allowed my mind to dwell on thoughts that I knew displeased God and clouded my experience of Him.
Later that week, I was keen to go to Prayer Meeting at church but of course, the devil was quick to start humming accusations into my ears, telling me that I had no business going into the presence of the King because I had had such a messy week.
Something in my spirit rose up and I determined that nothing, absolutely nothing, would keep me from at least approaching the presence of God. And so I went to Prayer Meeting, and even when I arrived, the barrage continued. The enemy was not about to let me approach the Lord without a fight. And si the battle raged in my mind.
But victory was mine because soon, the Holy Spirit started speaking to my spirit and helping me to understand that there must be something about being in the presence of the King, that makes the enemy so frantic to keep me from pressing in.
Ah!!
Then the Holy Spirit started instructing me to approach the Lord, boldly, humbly, genuinely repentant for the choices I had made that week. I obeyed, and approached with repentance. As I did this, I immediately felt relief, I felt strengthened. Joy began to rise in my heart.
Then the Holy Spirit instructed me to rebuke the enemy for his lies and accusations that were arrows aimed at preventing me from pressing into God’s presence. I obeyed gladly, a righteous anger welling up inside me at the enemy who was so crafty in trying to keep me from the King.
Then the Spirit of God invited me to come closer to His throne in worship, and I did.
Ah… and I found His presence to be real, and tangible, and oh so sweet.
And from my place of worship, the Lord spoke to my spirit again and called me by names that I am known by in His presence. And then He instructed me to stand beside His throne, turn and survey all that He rules, and join Him daily, to establish His kingdom in the hearts of men (which, by the way, is what the Lord has called each of us to do with and for Him, as soon as we come to believe in Him). The Lord instructed me to live and do life from my place in His presence, because this is indeed the power seat.
I have goosebumps just writing this.
“Take me to the King. I don’t have much to bring. My heart is torn in pieces, its my offering.” So what if ‘they’ did take you to the King? What would you do? What would you say? How would it change your life? How would it echo in eternity?
The time for us to wander into church once a week, sing pretty songs that pull on our heartstrings, and then wander back out to carry on with ‘real life’ is gone. These are times to draw near to the King and remain in His presence, living and doing life from there.
My prayer for you today is that every single day of your life, will be lived from your place in the presence of the King. My prayer is that you will refuse all lies and distractions that the enemy levels at you to prevent you from making your way to the throne of God. My prayer is that you will come to the Lord, daily, habitually, intentionally, in genuine repentance and heart-felt worship, and that from there, you will discover and step into who you are, in the Presence of the King. And when you discover who you are in His presence, I pray that you will rise to resist the enemy’s work in your life and in the lives of those who God has committed to your hands, and you will go about working the works that God planned for you to do in this life – establishing His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Take me to the King.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, I come, I come. Here I am. I want to live in and from Your presence, daily, sincerely, habitually. I want to love You, not from afar, but from my place in the secret place of the Most High. I want to resist any and every attempt of the enemy to block me from drawing close to You. And as I draw close, I want to experience You as the real and life-altering One who You are. Oh Lamb of God, I come. I come.
Your challenge:
Drawing near to God’s presence and living from your place in what the Bible calls, ‘the secret place of the Most High’ may sound like hocus pocus to you if you have never experienced it as real.
Well, God is real. His presence, which is basically the tangible experience of Him being right there with you, is real. If you struggle to experience God in this way, it is likely because your soul is filled with distractions and/or sin, and you are not daily, habitually, genuinely and intentionally drawing near to the Lord, through the means He has made available to us, that is, meaningful prayer, study of God’s Word, Meditating on His Word and listening for His voice, setting your heart on Him in worship (this often happens when you sing so-called ‘worship songs’), and fasting.
So your challenge is to write up a practical plan that allows you to do the following:
1) Daily pray the prayer I shared with you above. Do it meaningfully and from your heart.
2) Daily and consciously stay aware of the ways the enemy is trying to keep you from drawing near to the King (usually he does this by tempting you to sin or by keeping you distracted and busy, and then he tops it all off with accusation and condemnation). When you do mess up, don’t dawdle. Run to the One who invites you to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need.
3) Daily set aside time to meaningfully draw near to God using at least one of the ‘vehicles’ that I shared with you above:
Prayer
Meditating on the Word of God
Listening for His voice
Setting your heart on His glory, in worship
Fasting (this you could choose to do once a week)
How long should you spend drawing near to God every day? I would say you do it until you know in your spirit thay you have encountered God, genuinely and tangibly…and then you come back and press in again the next day, and the next, and the next…
Write back to me on toyin@thenarrowgateway.com and let me know how it goes. My prayer and strong faith is that as you draw near to the King, you will begin to experience Him as He is, you will discover who He has created you to be and you will rise and live from your place in His presence.

That Awful Blanket Called Religion

That Awful Blanket Called Religion

That Awful Blanket Called Religion

I read this devotional by Our Daily Bread titled ‘Outside In’ a few days ago and it stuck with me. It asks the question, are you changing from the Outside In, or from the Inside Out? (Click here to read the devotional on Our Daily Bread).

Are you changing from the outside in, or from the inside out?

The writer focused on the fact that many of us look to superficial and artificial ‘externalities’ like make-overs, or weight loss and stuff like that, hoping that drastic change on the outside will somehow magically sort out the tangled brokenness we are living through on the inside. And when we realise that that’s not going to change anything on the inside, we cling to the facade that these images create. The world looks at us and thinks, he or she must be doing okay because he or she is looking good on the outside.

But truth be told, that inner brokenness and turmoil that has framed and even maimed us remains. Make-over or no make-over.

And then I thought of the one facade that so many of us use. Yes, including us Christians. I call it that awful blanket called RELIGION.

Religion. Being really good. Following all the rules. Keeping away from the bad. And then patting ourselves on the back a million times a day because we think that because we are ‘better’ than the guy down the street who can’t keep his ‘stuff’ together, then we must be getting somewhere. We pride ourselves in our ability to be disciplined, and to stay away from the bad and always do the good …

All in a bid to mask the insecure brokenness that is etched deep inside our souls, taunting us, and reminding us that ‘we will never be good enough’, no matter how hard we try.

What is so bad about being ‘good’? You may ask. Let me address that as an aside.

You will know if your goodness is simply a cover up for ‘your inner brokenness and turmoil’ if your trigger response to weakness, sinfulness and hardship that you see in the world, is to be judgmental (even of those that you think deserve to be judged) and to deny people mercy (grace that they do not deserve). How can godliness breed mercilessness though? The wrath of man does not birth God’s righteousness.

Godliness and goodness are not the same thing. I spoke on this topic a few months ago. Check it out here.

Have you been covering up your broken inward parts by grasping at what you think is ‘goodness’? Have you frantically kept yourself ‘clean’ thinking that this is what will rid you of the inner pain and turmoil that accompanies your every waking thought? Have you been living off of the accolades that people so freely shower on folks like you who are able to be so ‘good’ in a world full of lots of ‘bad’?

Are you trying to keep your soul from freezing over by clinging to that awful blanket called ‘Religion’?

There is grace…for you.

Being good is great. But that’s way beneath what God has for you. Oh boy! He loves you. He wants you. He thinks your ‘goodness’ is cute…but He did not come to make you ‘good’ through how you behave on the outside.

He came to restore you to complete wholeness on the inside – nothing missing, nothing broken…RESTORED to the way it was in the beginning. Whole. Satisfied. Thriving from the inside out. Intimately dependent on God. Co-ruling with God to implement His will in the earth.

Yes, your ‘outward goodness’ is part of the mix. It is simply a natural result of your inner wholeness and reconnection to God. Your outward goodness will birth mercy and compassion for those who are also broken inside, and this will be what will draw them to Jesus.

AM I SPEAKING TO YOU?

If I am speaking to you, and you would like to do something real, tangible and measurable to untangle yourself from that awful blanket called ‘religion’, then you need to join The B.O.O.M Walk Program. My truth test

My truth test

My truth test

I am not there yet.

But, oh my,

What could be

If I would, if I could

Get this right.

My truth test

I am not there yet,

But I can see it in the horizon

I get goosebumps when I think of what could be

If that truth,

becomes my truth.

You see,

I now know

that truth makes you free.

So if ‘it’ is truth,

then it must make me free

So, now I ask myself

Can it make me free?

Is it making me free?

If yes,

it is truth

If no,

It is not truth

If it is truth, then

Can it make me live IMPOSSIBLY?

Or does it tell me that I am limited by my capacities or incapacities?

Can it make me do IMPOSSIBLE THINGS?

Or does it tell me to stick to what I can see with my natural or sourish eyes?

Can it make God real to me?

Or does it tell me that God is a figment of a dreamer’s imaginations?

If it is truth, then,

Can it help me live selflessly?

Or does it tell me that I am number 1, in this life, and in the one to come?

Can it help me love genuinely?

Or does it tell me that love is love only when it is given to me first?

Can it help me serve the undeserving?

Or does it build qualification tests that the needy have to pass, before they can get my help?

If it is truth, then

Does it give me a pass for being reacting to the brokenness of life, by being broken myself?

Or does it help me RISE above my pain, and find healing in impossible places?

Does it encase my heart in anger and prejudice?

Or does it help me forgive the unforgiveable?

Does it compel me to look for love in places and with souls who can only dish out counterfeits?

Or does it draw me in to respond to the Lover of my Soul?

Most importantly…

Does it make me GOD, in my own eyes

Or does it make me a CHILD of GOD?

Does it build mountains between me and God

Or does it call me in, to that sweet place, where the God of all the earth dwells?

Does it entrench the idea that God is a mystery

Or does it unravel me lovingly, as my eyes open to SEE who God really is?

And when that TRUTH

becomes my truth,

When that TRUTH

shapes my reality,

Is the darkness that has shrouded around me dispelled?

And when I open my eyes, do I see…

JESUS?

My truth test

You see,

I now know

that truth makes you free.

So if ‘it’ is truth,

then it must make me free

So, now I ask myself

Can it make me free?

Is it making me free?

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” – JESUS

What’s your scar? Where does it come from? Is it still driving your thoughts and responses to life? Are you tired of your scars keeping you wedged off into the fringes and sidelines of life, constantly angry, bitter, frustrated, rejected, insecure, proud, self-righteous … etc?

That’s what you and I will be tackling with the HOLY SPIRIT in The B.O.O.M WALK PROGRAM.💥

And if I am so excited about it, imagine how God, the Incredible Lover of your soul feels?😉

Hugs and Love,

Toyin Oladiran (Christian Transformational Coach and Creator of The B.O.O.M Walk Program)
